Women's Shed Canberra is now recruiting migrant and refugee women for our Upholstery Skills Program. This fully funded program provides participants with practical upholstery and furniture restoration skills, confidence-building opportunities, social connections, and hands-on experience in a supportive learning environment.
Eligibility Criteria :
Women aged 18 years and older
Migrant, refugee, or humanitarian background entrants with work rights
Have been in Australia for six months and plan to stay
Underemployed or recently unemployed women
Demonstrate a willingness to commit to a 12 weeks hands-on building and skills program
Beginner to basic understanding of English. Most of the learning is through demonstration.
Workforce Australia registered
The program begins with an Introduction to Power Tools workshop, followed by structured upholstery training delivered over 12 months. No previous experience is required. The participants will need to complete the Introduction to Power Tools session.
There will be no interpreters or translated material. Beginner English is enough to learn the skills through demonstration.
