Mother’s Day is one of those times of year that holds so much meaning. It’s not just about cards or flowers—it’s about celebrating the women who’ve shaped us, stood beside us, and continue to inspire us.

At Women’s Shed Canberra, many of our members are mothers themselves, including our founder and CEO, who built this Shed from a vision grounded in care, strength, and community. At the Shed, we see these in so many forms. We see it in women teaching women, in shared laughter, and in the quiet confidence that grows as a new skill is mastered.

We know that motherhood looks different for everyone. Some of us are in the thick of raising children, others are watching theirs grow into adults. Some have mothers still with them, others carry their memory. And a few of us honour the mother figures who stepped in when life didn’t follow a traditional path—grandmothers, aunties, teachers, friends.

Mother & Daughter Pyrography

This year, we’re inviting you to slow down and create something meaningful with someone you love. On Tuesday, 14th May, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, we’re holding a Mother and Daughter Pyrography Workshop—an evening where connection, creativity, and shared memories take centre stage.

Together, you'll design and burn a personalised wooden sign—something simple, heartfelt, and lasting. We’ll provide everything you need, including guidance and good company. All you need to bring is yourself, and perhaps someone special to share the experience with. It’s about sitting side by side, letting the busy world fade for a couple of hours, and making something that carries a piece of both of you.

This year, we hope you’ll join us in celebrating not just motherhood, but the connections and care that hold us together. However you decide to celebrate, it is a day to reflect on the relationships that shape who we are—and the strength we pass on to others.

Happy Mother's Day
