There’s something pretty special about a Shed on wheels. Since 2023, the Women’s Shed Canberra Mobile Shed has been hitting the road—bringing tools, creativity, and community directly to women where they are. As Australia’s first and only women’s mobile shed, this van isn’t just a vehicle—it’s a moving space of connection, learning, and empowerment ( actually we are not aware on a men's shed either).

Whether you live in the suburbs, on the outskirts of town, or in a community that’s been waiting for a bit more access and hands-on support, the Mobile Shed was designed with you in mind.

    What is the Mobile Shed?

The Mobile Shed is our way of extending the Shed beyond our physical location. It's fully kitted out with tools, materials, and everything we need to run workshops in a variety of settings—schools, community centres, open green spaces, and more. From woodworking to upcycling to hands-on repair skills, we tailor each workshop to meet the needs and interests of the community we’re visiting.

Community in Action: Whitlam and Goodies

In 2025, we’ve had the joy of running Mobile Shed workshops at Whitlam Mingle Project and Goodies Junction. These sessions continue to bring women together across generations, allowing them to learn new skills, share stories, and build something meaningful—not just with timber and tools, but with each other.

    Whitlam

During one of our Whitlam based workshop participants rolled up their sleeves to build simple wooden projects that sparked creativity and confidence, all while enjoying a supportive and welcoming environment.

    Whitlam

During many of our Goodies Junction based sessions we saw older and younger women rediscover their love of making, with plenty of laughter, and connection along the way.

These workshops reflect the heart of what the Shed is about—diversity, access, inspiration, creativity and belonging. And with the Mobile Shed, we’re able to keep saying “yes” to more communities, more often.

Want to Bring the Shed to You?

If you’re part of a group or neighbourhood that would benefit from hands-on workshops with a big heart and a bit of sawdust, get in touch. We’re always looking for new stops and new stories.

The Shed is on the move, we’d love to meet you on the road.
